Fair Trade Gone Wrong

Fair Trade Gone Wrong for a year, Ethical Fashion Guatemala has tried to offer aid to a group of amazing Mexican Jewelry Artisans help. They are afraid by talking about their fight this company Global Crafts will cause them harm.

The Artisans are known as Art Camp, live in Puente Tecalpulco, Taxco el Viejo, Gro. Mexico.  Up until a year ago a prosperous and well-organized Co-Op, providing wholesale clients worldwide with their products mostly through a company called Global Crafts.

Global Crafts suddenly canceled a contract between the Art Camp Co-op. However, both websites listed below continue to make a representation of Art Camp Artisans products are what consumers are purchasing. However, the use of the Art Camp products, images of workers and copy remain on the maze of Interconnected websites operated by this group.

This website linked from Global Crafts site featuring the Art Camp Artisans.

I have sent emails to the management of Global Crafts asking for an explanation of this false representation of the Art Camp Artisans and products on their websites. No reply. I called and shuffled around by the person answering the phone that no one was available to talk.

I have seen the contract between both Parties, the notice of termination of the contract, and many other emails from Art Camp members asking why?

Global Crafts is a Fair Trade Member, Global Crafts has the rights to cancel any contract for any reason within the terms of the agreement.

We also emailed and contacted the Fair Trade Organization sanctioning the use of a Fair Trade by Global Crafts asking them to investigate. This was the only reply sent back.

Global Crafts and affiliates do not have the rights to use the Art Camp Artisans products, pictures, and stories when they are no longer doing business together.

Under the DMCA, Ethical Fashion Guatemala could request the website pages removed for Copyright Infringement. Art Camp rejected this idea in fear of actions against them by Global Crafts.

I would prefer for Global Crafts and Affiliates reply to our email requests in a professional manner.

This blog post has taken the time to write and position the facts clearly and accurately.
