Learn Maya traditional leather working techniques from selecting the right piece of leather, what hardware and tools you need, designing and pattern making, marking and cutting out, assembling, stitching, and hand finishing — you will learn everything you need to know in crafting handmade projects including:

  • An introduction to basic tools
  • An understanding of the various types of leather
  • How to pick the right type of material for your project(s)
  • Tz’utujil Maya pattern making and design
  • Tips on cutting leather
  • Gluing
  • Setting rivets and snaps
  • Punching holes
  • Hand stitch and lace leather

Guatemalan Workshops & Leather Classes

Guatemala Leather Workshop is designed for artisans and hobbyists with little or no previous experience in leather work who want to learn the fundamental skills of creating leather art.

This workshop is taught in Nicolas’s home studio. For your benefit, this workshop is limited to 3 students so that you receive the attention you deserve.

Please wear clothes that don’t matter if they get dirty or stained. It doesn’t always happen but it’s best to be prepared.
