About The Experience:
Learn about traditional Tz’utujil Maya weaving techniques, patterns, and motifs.
Learn how to set up a backstrap loom and the backstrap weaving technique.
Participate in natural dyeing techniques to see how the range and variety of color come from native plant materials.
Complete a finished textile: cut the sample tapestry from the loom and twist and tie the fringes.
Work under the expert guidance of Tz’utujil Maya weavers who have created extraordinary textiles for generations.
Guatemala Weaving Classes Details
EXPERIENCE DURATION: roughly 7-8 hours
EXPERIENCE LOCATION: San Juan La Laguna
EXPERIENCE INCLUDES Traditional tipico lunch and beverage, all weaving supplies, Tz’utujil Maya weaving workshop instruction, transportation in the Lake Atitlan area to the weaving workshop, and guide/interpreter.
